Let Them Eat Cake

A party without cake is just a meeting.

Let’s all be honest, the best part of any wedding day is the part where everyone eats cake! One of the very best perks of being a wedding photographer is that you can almost always find time at to take a break and enjoy a slice of the wedding cake. Not only are wedding cakes delicious, they are really beautiful. I have rounded up some of my favorite cakes, both traditional and non-traditional.

I love when a couple decides to break tradition on their wedding day with desserts. Above is a beautiful dessert table covered in pies and cakes (even a gluten free option). This one especially spoke to me, as pie is really my favorite dessert of all. Not only was this decision to have many offerings delicious, it also brought a unique feel to this wedding. Another way to bring your personality to your wedding cake is with a unique cake topper. The groom at this wedding is French, so having a French cake topper was such a sweet nod to his culture.

Instead of having a cake that you have to slice up to share with guests, I love the idea above of a tower of cupcakes. It allows for several different flavors and beautiful decor choices. You can also totally break the mold and have a cake that speaks to your favorite things. This baseball cake at these Atlanta Braves fans’ wedding, was such a fun and unique detail to add to their baseball themed wedding.

Just as important as how the cake is decorated is where you place it on the space. Put the cake in front of a brightly painted mural, or on a piano tucked into a gorgeous alcove, but most importantly make sure it sits in the beautiful golden hour light.

So when you are planning your wedding, remember that every good party needs dessert. Let your cake represent your more traditional side with a beautifully tiered cake covered in florals, or go a completely different route, and have your guests enjoy pie, donuts, or cupcakes instead. I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at some beautiful wedding cakes and desserts, and I apologize if your sweets craving is now triggered.
